Its important that we value our countryside and maintain this aspect of living. So anything we can do to maintain this is an advantage as long as we dont dent growth. I was bought up in Portsmouth, but have worked in the new forest Southampton Indian Restaurants. I have also worked in the country side in chichester and Petworth and have seen how different kind of living and working in the country side can be.

I hope the village design goes well.

Yes, I love the local cheeses, chutneys, beers and often buy them in Setley Ridge Farm shop, Brockenhurst.
I also like Young's honey from Sway, and try and source as many of my veggies as locally as possible.
There is a local community website in the forest that supports local food - The New Forest Food Challenge http://newforesttransition.ning.com
and there is a specific label - the New Forest Marque - which verifies food is locally sourced in the forest - google - New Forest Produce.

I live in the middle of nowhere in a very sparsely populated part of west Devon. I have always lived in the middle of nowhere. Therefore it would be very wrong of me to suggest that people who live in towns and cities should be denied the freedoms of rural England. Sadly it isn't as simple as that.

One person on a trials motor bike can cause immense damage to very vulnerable landscapes. So can twenty people on cycles or a hundred on foot. If we allow free access to all parts we risk seeing that damage destroying what we want people to be able to enjoy.

Schemes such at Pat's garden are wonderful and I would do everything I can to encourage them but the I find the title 'Sustainable Development Fund' worrying. Pat's patch isn't sustainable without constant input - work, if you prefer, to keep it in shape. Really, all this grumpy old man is saying is that you have chosen the wrong name because it gives the wrong impression and, as I Tweeted 'Sustainable Development won't work'unless it can guarantee that it 'sustains' the environment it is (rightly) seeking to exploit.

The amount of litter and dog mess that now covers the New Forest is both disgusting and disgraceful. I do not recall this as being a major problem until the last two or three years which may be coincidental with it attaining National Park status.

Why this was needed after the best part of a 1,000 years of local stewardship I know not. Obviously London knows best....

What does 'local people' mean in this context? - hopefully those who have lived in the New Forest for at least 60 years.....or is it everyone within the NF boundary, or perhaps will it include all those who enjoy spending time in the NF eg. residents of Bournemouth and Southampton.

I don't like the idea myself - it's a National Park - for the Nation not just for the self interests of those fortunate enough to live in it.

Very many thanks for helping to promote this great village initiative. Full details can be found at www.emerydownphonebox.co.uk . We have received many visitors since the box was officially opened on 28 April and many have many donations to our honesty box. There are dozens of books and CDs to choose from, plus leaflets all about the Lyndhurst Walk and New Forest, thanks to the New Forest National Park Authority who have been fantastic in their support (Lyndhurst Parish Council actually own the box).
